Between 1943 and 1953 John Christie murdered at least eight women, including his wife, in his flat at 10 Rillington Place, London. He had earlier been a key prosecution witness against his neighbour Timothy Evans, who was hanged in 1950 for murdering his daughter. Christie was executed in 1953 and Evans was posthumously pardoned. The case contributed to the abolition of the death penalty in Britain.
