Report
In 1995–1996 Marc Dutroux abducted six girls and young women, whom he held in a hidden cellar beneath his house; four of them died. Police and judicial failures in the case caused enormous outrage in Belgium – in 1996 around 300,000 people joined the “White March” in Brussels. In 2004 Dutroux was sentenced to life imprisonment.
