In 1988 Mariusz Trynkiewicz murdered four boys in Piotrków Trybunalski, Poland. He was sentenced to death, but a 1989 amnesty commuted the sentence to 25 years. When his term ended in 2014, a court ruled him a danger to society and committed him to the National Centre for the Prevention of Dissocial Behaviour in Gostynin. His case sparked a national debate over the so-called “beast law”.
