Between 1989 and 1992 Ivan Milat murdered seven young backpackers hitchhiking around Australia, including foreign tourists. Their bodies were found in the Belanglo State Forest in New South Wales. The testimony of a British backpacker who escaped from his car in 1990 proved crucial. Sentenced in 1996 to seven consecutive life terms, he died in 2019.
